Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Arizona

Basic Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Arizona
In Arizona, you must obtain a license with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy to work as a pharmacy technician or as a trainee.
You can obtain your license as a pharmacy trainee or as a pharmacy technician.
To apply as a pharmacy technician, you must be a certified pharmacy technician by passing either the PTCB exam or ExCPT exam. If you apply for a license without a certification, you will be pharmacy trainee in this state.
If you are applying as a pharmacy trainee (without a PTCB or ExCPT certificate), the following is required:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be of good moral character
- Provide proof of US residency (if you are not a citizen, provide proof that you are eligible to work in the US)
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
- Submit application fee of $50

An application for renewal cannot be made for trainees.
If you are applying as a pharmacy technician (has earned PTCB or ExCPT certificate), you must meet the following:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be of good moral character
- Provide proof of PCTB or ExCPT certification
- Provide proof of US residency (if you are not a citizen, provide proof that you are eligible to work in the US)
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
- Submit application fee of $82

Application renewals for technicians are required every two years, along with completing continuing education of 20 contact hours and 2 CEUs.
Training Requirements
There is no formal educational requirement for trainees. As a technician you must complete a training program that is prescribed by the board rules as described in section R4-23-1105 of the Arizona Administrative Code.
Certification Requirements
To apply as a pharmacy technician, you must have your PTCB or ExCPT certification. To apply as a trainee, you are not required to have a certification
