Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Idaho
Registration in the state of Idaho is required with the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy to work as a pharmacy technician.
Registration as a pharmacy technician in Idaho is available in three variations:
- Technician-In-Training Waiver – if you are at least 16 years old and either in a school supervised program or a child of a pharmacy owner. There is no fee for the waiver.
- Technician-In-Training – where you are eligible to apply if you are already employed by a pharmacy but have not yet earned a national pharmacy technician certification. The fee for registration is $35 plus applicable background check fees.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician – where you are already a pharmacy technician and have been approved by one of the national certification boards. The fee for registration is $35 plus any associated background check fees.
Basic Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Idaho
The minimum requirements for registration vary according to the type of applicant you are:
- Technician-In-Training Waiver
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Enrolled in a pharmacy program OR child of a pharmacy owner
- Technician-In-Training
- Must be at least 18 years old (unless a waiver is granted)
- Graduated high school or holds a GED
- Be of god moral character
- Has and maintains employment as a technician-in-training
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
- Must be at least 18 years old (unless a waiver is granted)
- Graduated high school or holds a GED
- Be of god moral character
- Earned and maintained status as a certified pharmacy tech (CPhT) via the PTCB.
Training Requirements
Idaho does not have specific requirements for training. However, be sure to attend a training program or school that is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Programs that are accredited by the ASHP have shown that they meet the recommended requirements to help enable you to pass one of the national exams.
Certification Requirements
National certification is required in Idaho to register as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. National certification is accepted either from the PTCB or ExCPT.
