Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Louisiana
To work as a pharmacy technician in the state of Louisiana, you are required to register with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
To obtain your Pharmacy Technician Certificate you must first earn at least 600 hours of practical, hands-on experience with a pharmacy licensed in Louisiana and also pass a state-approved exam. But before you begin earning 600 hours of experience, you will need to get your Pharmacy Technician Candidate Registration.
To apply as a Pharmacy Tech Candidate, fully complete and submit your Application for Pharmacy Technician Candidate Registration – a fee of $25 is required. After this registration is issued, it will be valid for 18 months and is not renewable thereafter.
When you are ready to apply for the Pharmacy Technician Certificate, fill out and submit the Application for Louisiana Pharmacy Technician Certificate, together with the $100 application fee. Renewal of your certificate is due annually on June 30th.
Basic Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Louisiana

- Must have a high school diploma or a GED
- Must be of good character without impairment
- Must pass a criminal background check

Training Requirements
Training acquired must follow the minimum competencies as stated in Pharmacy Technician Training Program per the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy.
Pharmacy techs must earn at least 10 hours of ACPE accredited technician continuing pharmacy education on a yearly basis. This is a prerequisite for renewing your certificate.

Comprised of two semesters, the program combines both classroom and clinical education.
