Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Maryland
To work as a pharmacy technician in the state of Maryland, you are required to register with the Maryland Pharmacy Board, a part of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
To apply for registration, fully complete and submit the Application for Pharmacy Technician Registration form together with applicable attachments and the required $45 registration fee.
You must renew your registration on a biennial basis. The renewal fee is $45.
Basic Pharmacy Technician Requirements in Maryland
The following are the minimum requirements for registering as a Pharmacy Technician:
- If you have been certified by a national pharmacy tech certification program:
- Must provide proof that you are currently certified.
- Must submit to a criminal history background check
- If you have not earned national pharmacy tech certification:
- Must be 17 years of age or older
- Must have earned a high school diploma or obtained you GED or you are currently in high school in good standing
- Must provide proof of successful completion of a Board approved pharmacy technician program
- Must pass an exam approved by the Board
- Must submit to a criminal history background check
- If you do not meet the education requirements as stated above:
- Must be 17 years of age or older
- Provide verification from the pharmacy permit owner that you have worked in the pharmacy portion of the pharmacy on a continuous basis since 1/1/2006
- Provide verification from the pharmacist that you have competently worked in the pharmacy for at least 6 months
- Must submit to a criminal history background check
