Pharmacy Technician Requirements in North Dakota
To work as a pharmacy technician in the state of North Dakota, registration is required with the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy. If you have not yet graduated from an approved training program and are certified by the PTCB, you can instead register as a pharmacy technician in training if you are in an academic program at the North Dakota State College or in a training program supervised by a licensed pharmacist.
To register as a Pharmacy Technician in the state, you must fully complete and submit the Registration Application for Pharmacy Technician together with the required fee of $35. In addition to the fee, you must also include a recent 2×3 photo of yourself and a copy of your official PTCB certificate.
To apply as a Pharmacy Technician in Training, complete and submit the Registration Application for Pharmacy Technician in Training along with the fee of $10. You must also include a recent 2×3 photo of yourself.
Renewal of registration is due on an annual basis and expires on March 1st. The renewal fee is $35. Renewing your registration after March 1st will require an increased fee of $45.
Basic Pharmacy Technician Requirements in North Dakota
The following are the minimum requirements for registering as a Pharmacy Technician:
- Must have completed a pharmacy technician program that is accredited by the ASHS OR completed an on-the-job training program that is accredited by the ASHS
- Must be certified by the PTCB
The following are the minimum requirements for registering as a Pharmacy Technician in Training:
- Must complete the approved training within two years of registration
Training Requirements
The Board requires pharmacy technicians to complete a training program or on-the-job program that is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Programs that are accredited by the ASHP have shown that they meet the recommended requirements to help enable you to pass one of the national exams.
In addition, pharmacy techs must complete at least 10 hours of approved continuing education, which is a condition of registration renewal every year.
Certification Requirements
The state of North Dakota requires national certification from the PTCB for all pharmacy technicians.

Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt offers their Pharmacy Technician Program whereby upon successful completion you will earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree. The program requires 65 credit hours comprised of general education and program core coursework.
